Our newest program is Music in the Schools, a chance for students to take private music lessons at their school during class hours. Students are allowed to leave their class for their private music lesson which is either 30 or 45 minutes long depending on the level of the student. Schedules are co-ordinated with the student's classroom teacher to make sure that the child is not missing a subject in which he or she is experiencing difficulty. All efforts are made to ensure minimual disruption of class time. We have sent out notices to all of the elementary school principals in the Ottawa area to determine if there is sufficient interest. If you would like to see this program at your school, talk to your principal, and have them contact us at jamesopera@rogers.com. Or, let us know and we can approach the school administration on your behalf. With budget cuts and other financial restraints on the Ontario school system, funding for music is usually one of the first programs to take a hit, in spite of all of the studies which show that children who study music performbetter in virtually all of their other studies.
